Kohl's Lends a Hand - April 24, 2010
In recognition of Earth Day and National Volunteer Week
 |
Approximately 50 volunteers from Kohl's Distribution Center in Wurtsboro, NY showed up to Volunteer for SullivanArc as part of Kohl’s National Volunteers Go Green Event (NVGG) in celebration of two April events – National Volunteer Week and the 40th anniversary of Earth Day. SullivanArc's Hemming Farm in Woodbourne, NY was lucky enough to be the local recipient of this year's program. The fifty volunteers, their spouses and families erected a nearly one-acre large fence on the site of SullivanArc's newly formed Community Garden. They also helped build the first beds for the garden and planted an apple tree that Kohl's donated. The garden will feature organic vegetables and herbs and will be maintained by SullivanArc's consumers. Kohl's also made a donation to SullivanArc for their children's programs which will enable SullivanArc's children to participate in a special program designed to teach them about growing a garden and its benefits.

We started with an empty field. Soon all the posts were in place.
The holes were dug, and posts were erected.
